# 4 Start the Registry Editor. To do this, go to Start on the Windows taskbar, then Run and type regedit and click OK. When the registry editor opens find and delete the following.

# 1 HKCU \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run generated file name

# 2 HKCU \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run generated file name

Generated filename is a file generated similar to the file in step 2

# 5 If you can not find the files above you need to download a registry cleaner tool. You must do this in Safe Mode, then run a full system scan. This finds malware on your computer and stop and help you get rid of Windows XP recovery malware fast.

# 6 Once you've done what you need to help you get your desktop and icons on the back. Sometimes, just implementation of a system log analyzer will solve this problem, but if they didn't then do the following.

Find and download a program called Unhide from Internet. This will restore all your shortcuts and desktop icons back. They were not deleted, but hidden by the Windows XP Recovery program. It will take a few minutes and you'll see all your desktop icons and shortcuts are displayed.

Once this is done, restart the computer. You will find that you have gotten rid of Windows XP recovery software, but your desktop will be a black background. Right click on the desktop, click Properties, then click the tab that appears on the desktop. Once you have done this set your desktop back to the way it was and your computer will be back to normal.
